ST. LOUIS -- In D-backs manager Torey Lovullo's mind, third baseman Jake Lamb wasn't technically "scratched" from Friday night's lineup against the Cardinals, but Lamb was in the initial lineup Lovullo posted and not in a revised version.
Lamb landed on his tailbone when he fell into the stands making a catch Thursday night and was experiencing "general soreness" Friday. He did pinch-hit in the ninth inning of the D-backs' 1-0 loss and struck out.
Lovullo likes to have a lineup posted early in the day so that players can see it immediately upon entering the clubhouse, so he put Lamb's name in there. But he knew there was a strong possibility that the third baseman would not be able to play.
"Wanted to give him as much time to see how he felt coming to the ballpark today. He's a little sore from the fall into the stands, and we just thought it would be a smart decision to just let him recuperate a bit today," Lovullo said. "He could have played."
Lamb was back in the starting lineup Saturday, and Lovullo said there were no plans to have him undergo any medical tests.
"I don't think it's to that point or to that level," Lovullo said.

D-backs utilityman Daniel Descalso was having breakfast Thursday in St. Louis when a Cardinals fan approached him.
"We were in the stands at Game 6," the fan told him, referring to the Cardinals' stirring come-from-behind win over the Rangers in the 2011 World Series in which Descalso played a role. St. Louis would win Game 7 as well to win the championship.

Drafted by the Cardinals, Descalso played in St. Louis from 2010-14.
"Walking into the park, you can't help but think about Games 6 and 7 of the 2011 World Series and playing with a lot of the guys that I came up through the Minor Leagues with," Descalso said. "We all kind of broke in at the same time and were able to play for three or four years together, so definitely a lot of good memories."
Like with other members of that 2011 team, Descalso will always have a place in the heart of Cardinals fans.
"The city really rallies around the Cardinals," Descalso said. "We got in [Wednesday] night right as the game was getting out, and everyone has on a Cardinals shirt or jersey; there was a lot of red and will be all weekend. They definitely have a really good following here, a passionate fan base."
