Pipeline preview: Duplantier aims to extend scoreless streak

April 24th, 2017
D-backs No. 8 prospect Jon Duplantier (upper left) has not allowed a run as a pro and looks to keep his scoreless streak going in a start for Class A Kane County.

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Monday's Minor League action:
Pitcher to watch: Jon Duplantier (D-backs' No. 8), Kane County vs. Wisconsin (7:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Duplantier has yet to allow an earned run as a professional. The D-backs' third-round Draft pick in 2016, Duplantier debuted with a scoreless inning for Short-Season Hillsboro last year and has followed it up with three impressive outings for Class A Kane County to open 2017.
In his last game against the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday, the 22-year-old right-hander put together his best effort to date. Duplantier tossed 5 1/3 no-hit innings, walking one and striking out six. In addition to his 0.00 ERA this season, Duplantier has also struck out 20 batters compared to just four walks in 15 1/3 innings.

Hitter to watch: Ryan O'Hearn (Royals' No. 8), Omaha at New Orleans (8 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
O'Hearn is in the middle of a power surge -- he homered for the third time in four games on Sunday (off Major League veteran ), providing the Storm Chasers an insurance run in sixth inning of their 4-2 win over the Baby Cakes. It was his fifth homer of the season, and he has 11 RBIs in 15 games.
The 23-year-old first baseman/outfielder also doubled off Worley and finished 2-for-4 on the day, which raised his season batting average to .317. O'Hearn now has multiple hits in three straight games and in five of his last six.

Duel of the day: Chance Adams (Yankees' No. 7) vs. Conner Greene (Blue Jays' No. 6), Trenton at New Hampshire (6:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Two organizational top 10 prospects will be facing off when New Hampshire hosts Trenton in a Double-A matchup. For Trenton, 22-year-old right-hander Chance Adams takes the mound after earning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors last week. Adams is 2-0 with a 1.10 ERA in three starts this year, including a 5 2/3-inning hitless effort in his season debut and five innings of one-run, five-strikeout baseball against New Hampshire in his last outing. He's struck out 18 batters in 16 1/3 innings.

But Greene has been effective for New Hampshire, too, and the last time he took the mound he held Trenton to two runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings, while striking out five. The 22-year-old righty is still looking for his first win of the 2017 season, but his command has been improving and is averaging a strikeout per inning over his first three starts of the year.
