PHOENIX -- The D-backs are riding an emotional high after beating the Rockies in the National League Wild Card Game, 11-8, on Wednesday night at Chase Field.

Next up is a date with the Dodgers, a team that has been a thorn in the D-backs' side for a while now.

The two teams will square off for the first time in the postseason tonight at Dodger Stadium in Game 1 of the best-of-five NL Division Series presented by T-Mobile.

"They're the best team in the league, so it'll be a good challenge," Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt said. "They've had the best record all year and it will be tough, but we'll just try to play hard. It definitely won't be easy. Just play every out and hopefully try to get some wins."
There is a history with these two teams.
The Dodgers overcame a large D-backs lead in the standings in 2008 -- thanks in part to Manny Ramirez's acquisition -- to keep Arizona home in October.
The two teams had a benches-clearing incident in 2013 -- after then-Dodger Zack Greinke was hit by an Ian Kennedy pitch -- and the lingering bad feelings carried over to September, when the Dodgers clinched the NL West at Chase Field and enraged the D-backs by celebrating in the pool beyond the fence in right-center.
This year, Los Angeles ran out to a big lead in the division before struggling at the same time Arizona got hot and won 13 straight games, including sweeps at Dodger Stadium and Chase Field.

"I just think we have guys that like to step up and they're not intimidated," D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said of his team's six-game winning streak against the Dodgers. "Look, the Dodgers got on a tremendous run there, and I think they were steamrolling teams and intimidating teams, and I don't think we have that mentality. We love that battle mindset. We love that challenge."

Some may think the back-to-back sweeps of the Dodgers would give the D-backs confidence going into the NLDS, but Arizona's players disagree.
"We know how we played them all season," D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb said. "But at the end of the day, that doesn't really matter."

The D-backs went 5-5 at Dodger Stadium and 6-3 against them at Chase Field.
Arizona outfielder A.J. Pollock delivered a key two-run triple in the NL Wild Card Game, and while he's looking forward to playing the team with the best record in baseball, he doesn't think past results will have any impact.

"Nothing," Pollock said. "They've got a good team, we've got a good team -- it's going to come down to execution. It doesn't matter what the history of it is, it's just going to come down to the best executing team is going to win."
