Another tough-luck outing for Godley

July 6th, 2017

LOS ANGELES -- 's frustration was evident as D-backs manager Torey Lovullo made his way out to the mound in the sixth inning to take his right-hander out with two outs and a runner at second base.
Godley appeared to throw his glove as soon as he got into the dugout, expressing the emotion that certainly must have made its way through the entire D-backs team as they lost for the second straight night to the Dodgers, this one by a 1-0 margin.
Tuesday night it was ace who kept the D-backs' bats in check, while Wednesday it was Alex Wood, who tossed seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts.
"They certainly delivered a one-two punch on us," Lovullo said. "That's why they're having a good year. We knew that coming in. We did our best to make things happen but you've got to give them credit. Their two big lefties shut us down, and we're a good offensive team, too."
For Godley it was another start in which he pitched well, but came away with either a loss or no-decision to show for it.
In eight of his 11 starts this year, Godley has allowed three or fewer runs and not received a win.
"He was spot on," Lovullo said. "He gave up one run and absorbed the lost. If we score six, we're talking about how great his outing is. He kept us in the game. He did exactly what we asked him to do. He attacked the zone all night long. He gave up one run and unfortunately we came up on the wrong side of it."
After Lovullo removed Godley, left-hander got lefty-swinging to bounce out to end the threat.
Between innings, Lovullo and Godley talked in the dugout.
"My reaction was towards me," Godley said. "I let the guy get on, I let him get to second base and of course you want to stay in the game there, but I 100 percent stand behind his decision to take me out there. It was the right move in that situation.
"My pitch count was up and on top of that you had the matchup you wanted coming out of the 'pen there so I fully support what he did there. Sometimes in that tight of a ballgame, you kind of let your emotions get the best of you. It should never happen."
The Dodgers lone run of the game came in the second when followed Chris Taylor's single with an RBI double.
"I haven't seen a whole lot of Godley, but he's got a very good curveball and he sinks it down, really competes," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "We didn't get a whole lot of good swings off of him."
Wednesday night, it didn't take many.
