Roberts earns Sporting News NL Manager of Year honor

October 24th, 2016

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been named Sporting News' National League Manager of the Year.
The 44-year-old Roberts led Los Angeles to an NL West title during his first season as a Major League manager. The first African-American manager in Dodgers history, Roberts guided the Dodgers to a 91-win season despite having 28 players spend time on the disabled list throughout the year.
Roberts, who received seven votes, beat out Nationals manager Dusty Baker and Cubs manager Joe Maddon, who received three votes each.
Roberts joins Hall of Famers Leo Durocher (1939) and Walt Alston ('55, '59, '63) on the list of Dodgers managers to win the award.
