This will be DeShields' third stint on the disabled list this season. He missed time in April with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand, and was on the seven-day concussion list earlier this month.

"I'm sure [it's] disappointing for him," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "Little commiserating laugh between us a little earlier, just because I feel for him. … It's tough on Delino, because he appreciates playing the game. He loves playing the game."

It has been a challenging year at the plate for DeShields, who hasn't found a groove. DeShields has batted .204 with two home runs, 22 RBIs, 47 runs and 18 stolen bases over 85 games for the Rangers this season. He hit .269 with 75 runs and a career-high 29 stolen bases last season.

"He's never really been able to develop any real consistency for the year, so I know that's been the challenge for him on the numbers side of it," Banister said.

Robinson will be in his third stint with the Rangers this season. He has batted .186 with one home run and five RBIs in 32 games. Robinson has spent most of the season with Round Rock, batting .303 with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and a .948 OPS in 53 games.

• The Rangers acquired third baseman Sherten Apostel from the Pirates on Friday, completing the July 30 trade that sent Keone Kela to Pittsburgh. Apostel, 19, has been assigned to Class A Short Season Spokane. He was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent in 2015. He batted .259 with seven home runs, 26 RBIs and an .866 OPS in 41 games for Rookie-level Bristol this season.

The Rangers also acquired left-hander Joshua Javier from the D-backs, completing a July 31 trade that sent Jake Diekman to Arizona. Javier has been assigned to the Arizona League Rangers. Javier, 19, was 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA in 10 games (four starts) for the Arizona League D-backs. Javier was signed by Arizona in 2015 as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic.

Adrian Beltre was not in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game on Friday. He exited Monday's game against the D-backs early and revealed Thursday that he sustained a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.

Beltre is waiting to see how he feels before making a decision as to whether he will go on the disabled list. Beltre has already been placed on the disabled list twice this season with injuries to the same hamstring, missing 28 games.

Chi Chi Gonzalez made an Arizona League start on Friday, his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in July 2017. Gonzalez last pitched for the Rangers in 2016.
