WEST SACRAMENTO — The Athletics placed outfielder Denzel Clarke on the 10-day injured list with a mid foot bone bruise in his right foot and recalled outfielder Colby Thomas from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced on Wednesday.
Clarke was on the A’s Opening Day roster and hit .170 (9-for-53) with one double, six RBI, four walks, two stolen bases, and 24 strikeouts. The 25-year-old Canadian outfielder made his MLB debut last season and slashed .230.274/.372 across 47 games for the A’s with three home runs, eight doubles, two triples, eight RBI, six walks, and 61 strikeouts. He won Electric Play of the Week a record four consecutive weeks last season. Most notably, he won Capital One Premier Play of the Year for his out-of-this-world home run robbery of Nolan Schanuel on June 9 at Los Angeles (AL).
Thomas hit .309 (21-for-68) for Triple-A Las Vegas with three doubles, five home runs, 19 RBI, eight walks, and 19 strikeouts in 17 games. Thomas made his MLB debut last season with the A’s on June 30 and hit .225 (27-for-120) with five doubles, six home runs, 19 RBI, seven walks, two stolen bases, and 49 strikeouts in 49 games. In 20 Spring Training games this year, Thomas recorded three doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, one walk, nine strikeouts, and two stolen bases.
