Mesoraco exits game with neck stiffness

NEW YORK -- Mets catcher left Thursday afternoon's 3-1 loss to the Giants in the fifth inning due to stiffness in his neck. He was replaced in the lineup by .
Mets manager Mickey Callaway said Mesoraco had a "pretty tight neck" during the game. Mesoraco was sent for an MRI, and Callaway said the results should be available on Friday before the club's game against the Nationals.
The injured catcher was 0-for-1 on the day, with a flyout to center field in the second inning.
Mesoraco was also involved in the play that resulted in the Giants' first run of the game. swung and whiffed on a pitch, and Mesoraco, thinking it was tipped, let the ball tick off his glove and pass, allowing to cross the plate. The run against was unearned.
"I thought it was weird," deGrom said. "It kind of looked like it changed directions on Devin, but I wasn't really sure what happened there."
