LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers activated left-handed reliever Grant Dayton from the 10-day disabled list before Thursday's game against the Braves, and designated right-handed reliever Sergio Romo for assignment.
Romo made 30 appearances in his first season in L.A., going 1-1 with a 6.12 ERA in 25 innings and 31 strikeouts against 12 walks. The former Giants closer signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Dodgers in February.
Romo, 34, had faced just one batter since June 30. He struggled all season with his slider, as right-handed batters produced a .559 slugging percentage against the pitch. The Dodgers have 10 days to trade, release or waive Romo, a 10-year veteran.

"It's always a tough decision," manager Dave Roberts said. "Sergio is such a professional, and obviously with what he's done in the game, very good, very accomplished, three-time champion [with the Giants]. But right now, where we're at, Grant coming back, and just the way that we've used them and the guys, the depth we have in the bullpen, just felt that this gives us an opportunity to have a few days to trade him, find a fit, and if not, for him to land somewhere else."
"But he always wanted to be a Dodger, had a chance to live that and I know that he wishes, we wish, the circumstances would have been different."
Dayton returns to the bullpen after missing 11 games due to neck stiffness. The lefty is 1-1 with a 3.63 ERA in 22 1/3 innings, with 20 strikeouts against 12 walks. Dayton has limited opponents to a .171 average this season.
