LOS ANGELES - Matt Kemp hit a home run for the record books night in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Rockies when he launched a solo shot into the left-field seats in the second inning at Dodger Stadium.
Kemp's home run gave him 20 on the season. It also gave the Dodgers a National League-record seven players with at least 20 home runs in a single season. The feat has been accomplished six times in the American League, most recently by last year's Orioles.
Adding in the contributions of Manny Machado and James Dozier, who were acquired in separate trades, the Dodgers have nine players on the current roster who have gone deep at least 20 times.
Kemp's home run got the Dodgers to within a run against the Rockies, who scored two times in the first inning against Dodgers starter Walker Buehler. Ian Desmond had a two-out, two-run single in the first.
With Chris Taylor sitting on 17 home runs, the Dodgers still have a chance to set the Major League record.

It is the eighth time in his career Kemp has hit 20 or more home runs, including six times in a Dodgers uniform.
