Hart to give Brewers more 'pen depth at Triple-A

April 4th, 2019

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers continued to stockpile bullpen depth on Thursday when they claimed left-hander off waivers from the Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A San Antonio.

Hart pitched 93 times for the Orioles over the past three seasons and was the Dodgers' property for less than a month. Los Angeles designated veteran right-hander Josh Fields for assignment to claim Hart from Baltimore on March 7, and now both Fields and Hart are in the Brewers' system. Milwaukee picked up Fields on a Minor League deal in late March and assigned him to San Antonio as well.

In 81 1/3 Major League innings, Hart has a 3.43 ERA and a 1.500 WHIP. Left-handers have logged a .724 OPS against him, compared to .787 for right-handers. In 210 1/3 Minor League appearances over six seasons, almost exclusively as a reliever, he has struck out 9.3 batters per nine innings with a 2.40 ERA.

To make room on a full 40-man roster, the Brewers shifted Bobby Wahl to the 60-day injured list. Wahl underwent ACL surgery last month.
