Pomeranz set for season-ending surgery

August 15th, 2021

PHOENIX -- ’s season is over.

Following the Padres’ 7-0 loss to the D-backs on Saturday night at Chase Field, manager Jayce Tingler said the left-hander has a flexor tendon tear and will have season-ending surgery Wednesday.

Pomeranz exited Tuesday's game against the Marlins in the top of the eighth inning with forearm tightness -- an issue he has battled a few times already this season. He has been on the injured list twice this year because of arm trouble and also missed time in Spring Training.

Pomeranz, 32, was placed on the 10-day IL on Wednesday. He finishes this season with a 1.75 ERA over 27 appearances. The Padres signed him to a four-year, $34 million contract before the 2020 season and owe $10 million for each of the next two seasons.
