BALTIMORE -- Red Sox second baseman had to leave Monday night's 10-8, 11-inning victory against the Orioles in the top of the fourth after he hit a foul into the ground that caromed up and hit him in the face.
Pedroia was diagnosed with a nasal contusion and is day to day.
The ball appeared to also hit the tip of Pedroia's helmet, and he was on the ground in pain immediately after the impact.
After conferring with Red Sox manager John Farrell and the training staff, Pedroia exited the game and was replaced by .
"He's sore," said Farrell. "He was bleeding pretty good and that got him flush right square in the nose. By the end of the game, he was back in the dugout, so we'll see where he's at when he comes in [Tuesday]."
If Pedroia has additional discomfort Tuesday, he could be sent for a CT scan.
"He was checked by the doctor here right when he came out of the game," said Farrell. "So again if there's any lingering issues, that would be next, but there's not one scheduled right now."
