ARLINGTON -- A line drive off the bat of Angels designated hitter C.J. Cron struck a Rangers fan seated in the lower section of Globe Life Park in fifth inning of Saturday's 7-2 Rangers win, and she was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The Rangers' public relations department said the fan was conscious, alert and talking. She was struck on the left side of the face while seated a few rows behind the first-base dugout and was lifted off in a chair. No further update was available.
Over the offseason, Major League Baseball released a list of guidelines that strongly encouraged teams to extend their protective netting to shield fans in all field-level seats between the near ends of both dugouts and within 70 feet of home plate, but Cron's line drive traveled well beyond that point.
"Unfortunately, it got her pretty good," Cron said. "Hopefully she'll be OK."
