6-year-old takes stealing a base quite literally

One of the quirks of going to a baseball game has always been mid-inning games for fans. A classic is having one “steal” a base, which involves sprinting to pick up a dummy base and bringing it back in a certain amount of time to win a prize.

In Houston, a kid starts somewhere in foul territory and runs down the right-field line to steal the base. On Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park, a 6-year-old fan named Oliver ran to second base instead of running down to right field.

This attracted the help of the Astros’ middle infield pairing of Jose Altuve and Mauricio Dubón.

The two big leaguers played along and showed Oliver that they couldn’t lift the bag either. After all three gave it their best shot, Altuve eventually pointed Oliver to the dummy base that was near the warning track in right field.

After successfully picking up the correct base and crossing the finish line manned by two members of the Shooting Stars, Oliver exchanged high-fives with fans who were cheering him on in the right-field seats.
