Fernando Tatis Jr. was not in the starting lineup for the second game of the Padres' home series against the Mariners on Wednesday night. It's just a day off for Tatis, with manager Craig Stammen making a concerted effort to give all his regular position players early-season off-days with the hope of easing the burden of a long season.
Tatis had appeared in all 17 games of the season so far and is slashing .242/.316/.303 with seven RBIs. He has yet to hit his first home run of 2026.
The Padres recently tried out Tatis at a new position, giving him an unexpected start at second base. He has been a full-time outfielder since 2023 after beginning his career as a shortstop.
