Giants coaches Hayes, Kelly relieved of duties

October 14th, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO-- The Giants' transition to 2017 began with the announcement that third-base coach Roberto Kelly and first-base coach Bill Hayes were relieved of their respective duties.
The Giants refrained from declaring that either coach had been dismissed, given the possibility that they had been offered jobs within the organization.
"We're still in process with that now. I can't answer that in detail," general manager Bobby Evans said during the ballclub's annual season-ending news conference Thursday at AT&T Park,.
Evans explained the coaching changes by saying, "We feel like we need to grow our leadership on the field in terms of how we aproach our baserunning and overall efforts, [running from] first to third, second to home. We want to look at some different leadership there and feel like we can get stronger."
The remainder of the coaching staff will remain intact, though bench coach Ron Wotus might interview with the Colorado Rockies for their managerial opening.
