KANSAS CITY -- Angels manager Brad Ausmus revealed Friday that Griffin Canning will make his Major League debut on Tuesday when he starts the homestand opener against Toronto.

Canning, who is Los Angeles' No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, got off to an impressive start for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, compiling a 0.56 ERA through 16 innings. He was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday so that he could reach 90 pitches in an extended spring game.

"So yes, the Canning question has been answered," Ausmus said. "We've always liked the stuff. There was a little caution because of the limited time in the pro ranks and because of the pitch count."

With Canning on his way towards a much-anticipated debut, Ausmus said right-handers Felix Pena and Chris Stratton will work out of the bullpen for the time being. Pena will then start again on Wednesday, assuming he doesn't get overextended working in the Kansas City series.

Ausmus said Trevor Cahill will get some extra days of rest under the current plan.

Goodwin back in KC

Left fielder Brian Goodwin, who had a brief tenure with the Royals before catching on with the Angels, was happy to be back in Kansas City for the weekend series.

"Anytime you've been somewhere and been embraced, it's always good to come back," Goodwin said. "I wasn't here long, but in the time I was here I felt welcomed. It's good to catch up with everybody."
