NEW YORK -- The extent of Hyun Soo Kim's Major League career might be limited to the 173 plate appearance he's made with the Orioles this season, but the left fielder also played 10 years in Korea.
Through all those seasons, Kim said through a translator, he's never missed as much time due to injury as this year. Kim hasn't played since leaving a game against the Angels on July 10 with a right hamstring strain, and said he hopes to avoid a stint on the disabled list.
"The goal is to be ready by Wednesday, but nothing works in a perfect fashion," Kim said. "I'll definitely try my best to get ready to play and see how it goes."
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Kim didn't run before Monday's game against the Yankees, instead focusing on strength exercises. Showalter said he hopes Kim will hit in a simulated game thrown by Darren O'Day, who's been rehabbing a right hamstring strain, on Tuesday afternoon.
"Hopefully he can dodge the DL, but tomorrow we'll probably make a decision on what we're doing with him," Showalter said.
Before the injury, Kim had established himself as a solid contributor for a strong offense. He played in 46 games and compiled a .329/.410/.454 slash line with three home runs and 11 RBIs.
