PITTSBURGH -- Robbed of a hit in his first at-bat on Saturday night at PNC Park, Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki wasn't denied his second time up. The 42-year-old lined a double to right off Pirates right-hander Chad Kuhl in the fourth inning for his 3,008th career hit in Miami's 3-1 win.
The extra-base hit moved Ichiro into 28th place on the Major League all-time list, passing Al Kaline (3,007). Next on the distinguished list is Wade Boggs, who is 27th with 3,010.
Ichiro has been getting more consistent playing time in right field since Giancarlo Stanton landed on the disabled list with a Grade 3 left groin strain.
Ichiro's two-out double proved to be a big moment for the Marlins, because Xavier Scruggs followed with a two-run home run to left field, giving Miami a 3-0 lead.

"Ichiro got on and he was able to do some damage there," Scruggs said.
For Scruggs, it was the first homer of his career, and he was thrilled to have an all-time great such as Ichiro be the first to congratulate him at home plate.
In Ichiro's first at-bat, he lined out sharply to center field, with Andrew McCutchen making a diving catch. He finished 1-for-4 on the night.

Ichiro doesn't have a lot of history playing at PNC Park. Saturday marked his eighth game there, and the hit was his fourth at the Pirates' home park.
Ichiro became the 30th player in MLB history to reach 3,000 hits, with the milestone being reached on Aug. 7 at Colorado.
