Indians to open Spring Training vs. Reds

August 19th, 2019

It’s time to start preparing for the 2020 season.

The Indians and Major League Baseball announced next year’s Cactus League schedule on Monday. Grab your pens and put a big circle around Feb. 22 to mark the date of the Tribe’s Spring Training opener against the Reds at Goodyear Ballpark.

The Indians will serve as the home team against Cincinnati, which shares the same home ballpark. The pair will match up two more times throughout their stint in Arizona, with Cleveland being the home team on March 17 and the away club on March 22.

The Tribe will face American League Central opponents on Feb. 23 (at Royals), Feb. 25 (vs. White Sox), Feb. 28 (at White Sox), March 11 (vs. Royals) and March 19 (at White Sox). With the club set to face the National League West next season, it will get an early preview of the division, playing the Rockies, Giants, Dodgers, D-backs and Padres at least once each in the four-week span.

The Indians will play 15 games as the home team at Goodyear Ballpark, plus 18 away contests. They will have two split-squad games (March 9 and 17) and seven weekend home games on Feb. 22, March 1, March 6-7, March 15 and March 20-21.

The club will play its final game in the desert on March 22 against the Reds before flying to Houston to play two exhibition games against the Astros on March 23 and 24. The Indians will then head back to Cleveland for Opening Day on March 26 at Progressive Field against Detroit.
