Iowa finished 7-5 in the regular season, which was highlighted by a 31-point win over then-No. 6 Ohio State. The Hawkeyes are appearing in their 16th bowl game in the past 17 years, and their head coach, Kirk Ferentz, is one win away from tying Hayden Fry as the school's all-time winningest football coach.
"Our football program and the University of Iowa are excited to be invited to participate at the New Era Pinstripe Bowl," Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said. "Having never participated in a bowl event in New York, we look forward to visiting for the bowl game and all of the events leading up to the gameday experience."
Meanwhile, Boston College also finished 7-5 after winning five of its last six games. The Eagles will be headed to a bowl for the fourth time in five seasons under head coach Steve Adazzio. The team tied a school record with nine players earning All-ACC honors in 2017, and freshman running back AJ Dillon became the first player in school history to be named ACC Rookie of the Year.
"We are delighted to welcome the student-athletes, staff and families of Iowa and Boston College to the 2017 New Era Pinstripe Bowl," said Mark Holtzman, executive director of the game. "There is no better place to experience an event than Yankee Stadium and nothing quite like New York City during the holiday season. We are thrilled to play a part in helping to create what will undoubtedly be a memorable experience for all."
Kickoff for the Pinstripe Bowl is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. ET on Dec. 27, and tickets are currently on sale. The game will be televised by ESPN and broadcast on ESPN Radio.
