NEW YORK -- The Mets acquired Jacob Rhame from the Dodgers, the team announced on Sunday, as the player to be named later in the trade that sent Curtis Granderson to Los Angeles late Friday night. He will report to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Rhame was ranked No. 28 in the Dodgers' system, according to MLBPipeline.com. With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, the 24-year-old went 0-2 with a 4.31 ERA and two saves in four opportunities. He struck out 55 batters over 48 innings spanning 41 appearances. The Dodgers selected Rhame in the sixth round of the 2013 Draft out of Grayson Community College (Texas).
The right-hander fits the same mold as the other young, hard-throwing relievers the Mets have picked up this season: His fastball sits in the mid-to-high 90s and occasionally touches triple digits, especially after the Dodgers streamlined his mechanics. New York also acquired Stephen Nogosek, Gerson Bautista and Jamie Callahan from the Red Sox for Addison Reed before the non-waiver Trade Deadline and flipped Lucas Duda for Drew Smith before that.
