CHICAGO -- Just two days after getting their best defensive infielder back, the Tigers placed their best defensive outfielder, JaCoby Jones, on the 10-day injured list with back spasms. Victor Reyes was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take Jones' place on the roster.

Jones left Game 1 of Detroit’s doubleheader against the White Sox on Wednesday and underwent an MRI after the game. Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said that the MRI revealed no structural damage.

“He’s not going to play for three or four more days, which leads us into the break, which is four more days. And then another two days after that is what we figure,” Gardenhire said after Wednesday's game.

Jones’ injury comes at an unfortunate time, as he had begun to swing the bat well over the last month. He was hitting .297 with four homers and a .914 OPS in his last 30 games.

Reyes has been relied upon often this season and is making his sixth trip to the Majors this year. He is thrilled his name continues to get called when things arise.

“It helps me a lot to be ready, because I know if anything happens here, I have to be ready,” Reyes said prior to Thursday’s game. “I like knowing that I’m their first choice if something happens, but of course I want to be able to stay here. Knowing that is something that encourages me to be ready.”

The 24-year-old outfielder is hitting .250 with one run scored and one RBI in eight games with Detroit this season.
