Yankees claim reliever Barrett off waivers

April 4th, 2019

BALTIMORE -- The Yankees claimed right-handed pitcher off waivers from the Pirates on Thursday, assigning him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Barrett, 27, has appeared in 103 big league games -- all in relief -- over three seasons with the D-backs from 2016-18, finishing 22 games.

A third-round Draft selection of the D-backs in 2012, Barrett has compiled a 4.05 ERA with a 2-4 record and a 1.36 WHIP, fanning 88 with 45 walks over 93 1/3 innings.

To clear space on the 40-man roster for Barrett, right-hander Ben Heller was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Heller is recovering from right UCL surgery, and is targeting June for his return to high-level competition.
