DENVER -- Rockies reliever Jake McGee threw a full-tilt, 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday, and if his next session, scheduled for Sunday, goes well, he intends to begin a Minor League rehab assignment.
Friday's bullpen was McGee's first since he was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 11 with inflammation in his left knee. He believes his rehab will be short.
"Today was a good test day to see how it felt," said McGee, who is 15-for-18 on save chances. "Luckily for me, I've been able to play catch every day. My arm strength is exactly where it needs to be. As long as my knee feels good, my arm feels as good as it's felt in a while."
McGee has not performed any fielding drills but has tested the knee with sprints. As he progresses he will wear a slightly heavier brace than the one he usually wears.
Injury updates:
• The sprain of Carlos Gonzalez's right wrist, sustained on a swing in the eighth inning of Thursday's loss to the D-backs, is not extensive, although he didn't start on Friday.
• Righty reliever Christian Bergman, who hasn't pitched in the Majors since May 19 because of an injured left oblique, threw 60 pitches for Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday night in his first rehab game. Manager Walt Weiss said that Bergman will have one more rehab appearance before being considered for reinstatement.
• Righty Adam Ottavino, recovering from Tommy John surgery, pitched a scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout on Thursday in his second appearance for Albuquerque.
Ottavino had emerged as a closer and was 1-0 with three saves and no runs surrendered in 10 total appearances before his last game, on April 25, 2015. Weiss said that Ottavino's role "remains to be seen. It's tough. He's been out a long time. There's definitely a niche for him out there. We've got to figure out exactly what it looks like. It's going to evolve."
• Left fielder Gerardo Parra, whose sustained a high sprain in his left ankle on June 14, hit for the first time since the injury on Friday -- off a tee in the batting cage.
