Big days from Sanoja, Caissie help earn Marlins a series split

MIAMI -- and combined for six hits and five RBIs in the Marlins’ 8-1 victory over the Reds on Thursday afternoon at loanDepot park.

With the win, Miami managed a split of the four-game series after dropping the first two contests.

The Marlins jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead on third baseman Eugenio Suárez’s fielding error and tacked on three fourth-inning runs on Caissie’s two-run double and Sanoja’s RBI single.

Sanoja added another RBI single in the sixth to score Caissie, while Caissie tallied an RBI single in the seventh.

It was enough run support for right-hander Max Meyer, who wiggled out of trouble across his five innings. He surrendered just a solo homer to local kid Sal Stewart in the fifth.

The win was bittersweet, however, as Miami may have lost outfielder Griffin Conine to an injury on his sixth-inning diving attempt. The initial diagnosis was left knee discomfort.
