Sands' 2 homers help White Sox down A's

MESA, Ariz. -- A's top pitching prospect Sean Manaea racked up seven strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings against the White Sox on Sunday, but Chicago pulled out a 6-2 victory at Hohokam Stadium with help from a pair of home runs from outfielder Jerry Sands.
Sands' two-run homer off Manaea in the first inning was one of three hits allowed by the left-hander, whose Cactus League ERA sits at 2.61 following four appearances, including three starts. Sands also homered in the seventh, clubbing a solo shot off A's Minor Leaguer Zach Neal.

A's third baseman Danny Valencia continued his torrid spring with an RBI triple off White Sox starter Jacob Turner in the first. Valencia, who is readying for his first season as an everyday player, is batting .379 during Cactus League action.
Turner gave the White Sox two innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout.

A's first-base prospect Matt Olson chipped in with an RBI single, while Jimmy Rollins, Jason Coats and Carlos Sanchez did the same for the White Sox.
Up next for A's: Right-hander Chris Bassitt, who came over to the A's in the Jeff Samardzija trade in 2014, is scheduled to square off against Samardzija and the host Giants at Scottsdale Stadium on Monday, with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. PT, streamed live on a free athletics.com audio webcast.
