The game-worn jerseys from Aaron Judge’s historic debut and Derek Jeter’s famous “The Dive” game will hit auction this July at Sotheby’s Summer Sports Marquee. Pre-sale estimates have Judge’s debut kit valued at $3 million to $5 million and Jeter’s jersey at $500,000 to $700,000.
The auction will begin at 10 a.m. ET on July 1 and run through July 20.
Judge made his debut at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 13, 2016, homering in his very first Major League plate appearance. It was a monster 446-foot shot to center field, going back-to-back with Tyler Austin, who was also making his debut. They became the first teammates to hit home runs in their first MLB at-bats in the same game.
Judge added a single in the fifth inning to finish his day 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a fitting start to what we now know as a three-time MVP career.
Sotheby’s said Judge’s jersey -- iconic Yankees pinstripes -- has been photomatched by third-party authenticator MeiGray.
Jeter’s pinstripes, meanwhile, were photomatched by MeiGray, SIA photo match and Resolution Photo Match to 74 games between the regular season and postseason in 2004, which MeiGray stated was the most for any item it had examined.
The record stretch of games, which spanned virtually the entire 2004 season, included “The Dive,” when Jeter went flying into the stands after snaring a fly ball in the 12th inning of a wild win over the rival Red Sox.
