With All-Star voting officially underway, it feels like a good time to look at who might be in line to represent the Giants at the 2022 Midsummer Classic at Dodger Stadium on July 19.

Let’s break down a few of the Giants’ most deserving candidates:

Joc Pederson, OF
Previous All-Star appearances: 1

Pederson was the lone Giants position player to be among the top National League vote-getters in the first All-Star ballot update that was released on Tuesday. The 29-year-old slugger currently ranks third among NL outfielders with 630,584 votes, trailing only the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts and the Braves’ Ronald Acuña Jr. That would put Pederson in line to start at Dodger Stadium, where he spent most of his career before signing with his hometown team this past offseason.

Pederson hasn’t made an All-Star team since 2015, his first full season in the Majors, but he leads the Giants with 15 home runs and a .912 OPS through 58 games this year. He’s obviously a popular figure around the league, too, as evidenced by the standing ovation he received on Monday night in his return to Atlanta, where he and his pearls became synonymous with the Braves’ World Series run last year.

The Giants haven’t had a player participate in the Home Run Derby since Barry Bonds made his sixth and final appearance in 2004, but Pederson could also be a candidate to join the slugfest. Pederson finished runner-up to Todd Frazier in the 2015 Home Run Derby and then fell to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in an epic semifinal showdown in 2019, so he certainly has the firepower to challenge two-time defending champion Pete Alonso of the Mets.

Carlos Rodón, LHP
Previous All-Star appearances: 1

Rodón is making a case to be named to his second consecutive All-Star team, as he’s logged a 2.84 ERA over 13 starts after signing a two-year, $44 million deal with the Giants this offseason. With a high-octane fastball and wipeout slider, Rodón features some of the most electric stuff in the league, racking up 91 strikeouts over 73 innings this year. Pitchers are not eligible for fan voting, but they can be added via player vote or appointed by MLB.

Logan Webb, RHP
Previous All-Star appearances: 0

It feels like only a matter of time before the 25-year-old Webb earns his first career All-Star nod, as he showed last year that he has the potential to be one of the most dominant starting pitchers in the league. Webb has a 3.26 ERA over 14 starts this year, but he seems to be hitting his stride in June, allowing only one run over 14 innings in his last two outings.
