A's add veteran Meneses, lefty Krook; reliever Barlow DFA'd

The Athletics selected first baseman Joey Meneses and left-handed pitcher Matt Krook from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned infielder Alika Williams to Las Vegas, the club announced on Sunday. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Scott Barlow was designated for assignment and right-handed pitcher Luis Severino was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Meneses has spent the entirety of the 2026 season with Triple-A Las Vegas and has posted a .348/.401/.543 slashline to go along with 20 doubles, 11 home runs, and 76 RBI in 69 games for the Aviators. The 34-year-old right-handed hitter signed with the A’s as a free agent to a minor league contract and was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training this year. Meneses last appeared in the big leagues with the Nationals, where he played from 2022-24. Across three MLB seasons, he owns a .274 batting average with 61 doubles, 29 home runs, and 165 RBI in 286 career games.

Krook has appeared in 25 games for the Aviators this season and is 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA (12 er/29.0 ip). He has 16 walks and 42 strikeouts, holding opposing hitters to a .223 batting average. The 30-year-old left-hander last pitched for the A’s in 2025, where he made three relief appearances. He allowed five hits, two earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts across 3.1 innings. In eight career MLB games, Krook has a 16.20 ERA with eight walks and eight strikeouts.

Williams was acquired by the Athletics on May 16 from the Pirates in a trade that sent minor league right-handed pitcher Kyle Robinson to Pittsburgh. In 23 games with the A’s, Williams hit .289 (13-for-45) with five doubles, one home run, five RBI, and two walks. He played in 17 games at shortstop and six at second base.

Barlow signed with the A’s as a free agent on February 10, 2026. The 33-year-old right-hander was 2-0 with a 6.48 ERA with two saves, 19 walks, and 29 strikeouts across 36 relief appearances. Barlow hit seven batters, which is tied for the most hit batsmen among MLB relief pitchers. Barlow owned a 1.02 ERA on the road, but a 12.64 ERA at home.

Severino was placed on the injured list on May 30 with a right shoulder strain. He received a PRP injection on June 4 and is continuing his rehabilitation in Sacramento.
