Kruk officially joins Phillies' broadcast team

February 6th, 2017

PHILADELPHIA -- John Kruk is officially part of the Phillies' broadcast team.
Comcast SportsNet announced on Monday that Kruk will join Tom McCarthy, Ben Davis, Mike Schmidt and Gregg Murphy on TV for the 2017 season. Kruk, who sources said signed a five-year contract, will be introduced at a news conference on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park.
MLB.com first reported that CSN and Kruk were negotiating a contract in early November. The parties agreed to a deal later that month, but it took another two months to finalize it.
"I am looking forward to working with Tom, Mike, Ben and Gregg," Kruk said in a statement. "Although I have played with three different organizations, the Phillies are family. I am excited to get started with this new chapter in my life."
Kruk and Davis are expected to work a schedule similar to the one Davis and Matt Stairs worked last year, meaning they will essentially share the workload -- although it is unclear if an exact schedule has been finalized. Stairs left the broadcast booth to be the Phillies' hitting coach in 2017.
"John worked with us as a color analyst during the 2003 season, so we are thrilled to welcome him home as a member of our 2017 Phillies broadcast team alongside Tom, Ben, Mike and Gregg," CSN Philadelphia president Brian Monihan said in a statement. "John's popularity, combined with his invaluable insight from his years as an analyst on the national level, will undoubtedly enhance our Phillies coverage for the 2017 season and beyond."
"The Phillies are very excited that John has agreed to join the CSN Philadelphia broadcasting team," Phillies senior vice president of marketing and advertising sales Dave Buck said in a statement. "John has been part of the Phillies family for almost three decades, both in and out of uniform. His great sense of humor, love of the game and knowledge of the Phillies and our fan base make for a winning combination to fill this role."
