ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Rockies left-handed starting pitcher Jose Quintana was transferred on the 60-day injured list with a left elbow sprain on Thursday, after initially being put on the 15-day IL on Tuesday.
The move means a long-term absence for Quintana (2-3, 5 27 ERA), but he will not require surgery, according to a Major League source. In his five starts prior to Sunday, when he gave up six runs in 1 2/3 innings before leaving the field with the trainer in Colorado's 9-1 loss to the Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Quintana had gone 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA.
Quintana is the second pitcher from the Colorado rotation shelved with an elbow issue. Righty Chase Dollander is on the 15-day IL and is not yet cleared to throw.
To complete the roster moves, the Rockies activated righty reliever Jeff Criswell from the 60-day IL and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.
