J-Up's homer, Boyd's zeros spark Tigers vs. Marlins

JUPITER, Fla. -- blasted a three-run homer and J.D. Martinez had a pair of hits, including an RBI double, as the Tigers rolled past the Marlins, 7-1, on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium.
Left-hander , competing for the Tigers' fifth rotation spot, scattered three hits and struck out five in five innings. Marlins left-hander allowed one run with four strikeouts in three innings.
Marlins right-hander , a candidate to make the club as a long reliever, worked a clean fourth inning, but the hard-throwing right-hander was tagged for four runs in the fifth. Martinez drove in a run with a double, and Upton broke the game open with his three-run shot to left.
added a two-run double in the sixth inning for Detroit, while homered for Miami in the eighth.

' RBI single off the center-field wall in the third inning gave the Tigers the early lead. led the inning off with a double, and he scored without a play when Iglesias' liner reached the wall.
However, Iglesias only got a single on the play, and that prevented Detroit from perhaps tacking on a second run in the inning. Martinez singled, putting runners on the corners with one out, but Conley struck out Upton and retired on a grounder to second.
Conley, making his first Grapefruit League start since March 2, worked three innings, allowing one run on five hits with four strikeouts.
"It still seems like he's not synced up to me," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "I'm not the pitching guy. To me, it seems like the ball isn't coming out too good."
Tigers Up Next: Veteran right-hander will make his fourth start of the spring on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET, when the Tigers host the Braves in Lakeland, Fla., live on Gameday Audio. Zimmermann gave up five runs in only 1 1/3 innings in his last outing against the Blue Jays. R.A. Dickey is the scheduled starter for Atlanta.
