Verlander to hold Grand Slam Adoption Event Saturday

March 17th, 2017

LAKELAND, Fla. -- and supermodel fiancée Kate Upton will team up with the Tigers, SPCA Florida and Wins for Warriors for their third annual Grand Slam Adoption Event, featuring adoptable dogs from SPCA Florida, on Saturday at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
The free event begins at 11 a.m. ET prior to Verlander's start for the Tigers against the Marlins at 1 p.m. It is open to the public. Stadium parking is $10.
Dogs from SPCA Florida will be on site ready to find their forever home. In addition, family- and kid-friendly activities include games, music, food and face-painting. Food and beverage on sale will benefit SPCA Florida and K9s for Warriors. K9s for Warriors, which provides service dogs to veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder or other trauma resulting from post-9/11 military service, will have program graduates on hand.
Those who can't be at the ballpark for the event but still want to help can participate online at grandslamadoption.com, where a silent auction will feature autographed memorabilia and experiences.
This event brings together the dedicated efforts of three non-profit organizations designed to serve the needs of others. Together, they work to illustrate the benefits of animal-human bonds to overcome the harsh realities of life, specifically for military veterans battling PTSD and traumatic brain injury.
