The Texas Rangers announced on Thursday that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Kelvin Gonzalez from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for international slot money. Gonzalez has been assigned from the Class A Burlington Royals to the Arizona League Rangers.
The 20-year-old Gonzalez has gone 0-2 with a 4.19 ERA (9 ER/19.1 IP) and one save over 11 relief appearances with Short-Season Burlington in the Appalachian League this season. He made his stateside debut last season with the AZL Royals after spending the majority of his first 2 pro seasons with the Royals entry in the Dominican Summer League. Gonzalez signed with the Royals as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on September 27, 2015.
