SAN DIEGO -- Lefty Kyle Freeland was scheduled to start Sunday afternoon against the Padres, but as the game began, righty Jimmy Herget warmed up quickly and entered in the bottom of the first.
Colorado announced that Freeland was scratched with left posterior shoulder soreness. The lefty was 1-1 with a 2.30 ERA through his first three starts of the season -- operating not only as the team’s best pitcher but a key leader for a young squad.
It set up the second bullpen game in the four-game series. Herget started Thursday night’s game as an opener, with righty Chase Dollander throwing the bulk (4 1/3 innings) of an eventual 7-4 loss in 12 innings.
Dollander began warming up as Herget began Sunday’s first inning.
