Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks' breakout season now includes a National League Player of the Week Award, which he shared with Marlins outfielder and newest 3,000-hit club member Ichiro Suzuki.
Hendricks, 26, allowed only one run in 16 1/3 innings over two starts last week against the Marlins and A's. He threw a seven-hit shutout against Miami on Aug. 1 and then tossed 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball against Oakland on Sunday, with his lone blemish a solo home run off the bat of Marcus Semien.

Hendricks' 2.17 ERA is now second in the Majors to only injured Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw. He's also allowed three earned runs or fewer in 15 consecutive starts.

"You're seeing his confidence getting higher and higher," Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo said. "His stuff is unbelievable."
Suzuki legged out a triple on Sunday at Coors Field to become the 30th player to reach 3,000 hits.

"I haven't seen anyone else get 3,000," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "I'm sure there have been some no-hitters and things like that, but this guy has been amazing for the game. ... Coming over when he was 27, what he's been able to do is pretty amazing."
