ARLINGTON -- Another Ranger has commenced a rehab assignment.
Texas catcher Kyle Higashioka, who landed on the injured list with a flexor strain on July 21, joined Triple-A Round Rock on a rehab assignment on Friday at Dell Diamond. Before landing on the injured list, he hit .218 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs in 58 games while splitting time with Danny Jansen and Elias Díaz behind the plate.
How did he perform?
Higashioka went 1-for-5 with a single and three strikeouts as the designated hitter.
What’s next?
The plan is for Higashioka to hit only for the time being. With just over 20 games left, he’ll be available as a bench bat when and if he’s activated from the injured list.

Fellow rehabber Josh Jung continued jogging this week, upping the intensity and number of arcs each day. Running to bases is the next step before it’s full-go and he can begin his own rehab assignment. He also took live batting practice off Robert Garcia on Sept. 1 and a Rangers Minor Leaguer on Sept. 4. Jung has been doing all full baseball activities except full-speed running over the last two weeks.
