WEST SACRAMENTO -- The Athletics aren’t going to the postseason in 2026. As a consolation, they’re dragging a division rival down with them.
Eliminated earlier this week from playoff contention, the A’s continued to crush the Mariners’ dwindling postseason chances with an 8-7 walk-off win in Sunday’s series finale at Sutter Health Park.
The A’s erased a 6-2 deficit with a four-run seventh before Randy Arozarena put Seattle back on top in the eighth with his second home run of the game. But in the ninth, Zack Gelof led off with a single and Lawrence Butler socked a two-run walk-off homer -- his second of the game -- against closer Andrés Muñoz to stun the Mariners.
It was the second walk-off homer of the series for the A’s, who got an extra-inning dinger from Donovan Walton to win on Friday night. They also took three of four from the Mariners last weekend in Seattle.
