MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins placed designated hitter Logan Morrison on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip impingement and reinstated infielder Ehire Adrianza from the DL to take Morrison's place on the roster before Thursday's series opener against the Rays.
Morrison said it's a minor injury that he's been dealing with, and now was the perfect time to rest it and get treatment with the All-Star break coming up. Morrison is eligible to return on July 22, so he could miss as few as six games with the injury.
"I expect to be back in 10 days," Morrison said. "Pretty minor, just aggravation of kind of a chronic thing that has been going on. A little rest, some medicine, should be fine."
Morrison, who signed a one-year, $6.5 million deal during Spring Training, has struggled offensively this season, hitting .193/.287/.367 with 11 homers, 13 doubles and 31 RBIs in 80 games. But Morrison didn't use his injury as a reason for his scuffles, although he did note it led to other injury issues, such as back tightness, that kept him out of the starting lineup for three games in June.

"I think the hip itself has been manageable," Morrison said. "It's kind of having to miss some games because my back has gone out, things like that. Hip is kind of influencing it. Just to be able to get some rest, get some of the inflammation out of there, hopefully that takes care of the aching and whatever little other stuff I have going on in the hip. And then if that moves correctly, then my back will be fine."
Twins manager Paul Molitor said it's common for hip injuries such as Morrison's to affect other areas, so it made sense to shut him down in the short-term. Morrison also received a cortisone shot to help the healing process.
"Maybe subconsciously you're kind of compensating for it, and the next thing you know, your back's a little sore and your groin gets tight and some of those type of things," Molitor said. "But he's been managing it fairly well. I don't think it's in the excuse category at all for him, but we've been talking about this for a while."
No timetable for Buxton, Sano
Molitor said center fielder Byron Buxton and third baseman Miguel Sano are both making progress in the Minor Leagues, but there is not a target date for either to return. Complicating things, Buxton left Thursday's game with Triple-A Rochester with a hand injury sustained while taking a swing, but the Twins are hopeful it's a minor injury. Molitor said Buxton is expected to undergo precautionary testing on Friday.
Buxton is hitting .232/.303/.377 with two homers and six RBIs in 18 games with Rochester, beginning his rehab assignment there before being optioned on July 2. Sano hit a three-run homer for Class A Advanced Fort Myers on Wednesday and was batting .321/.406/.446 with two homers and 10 RBIs through 16 games.
"I still have confidence those guys are going to be really good Major League players," Molitor said. "So I've tried to stay away from guessing or speculating on when that might occur. I just know that long-term faith is still very strong."
Sano, who is also working on his conditioning at the club's Spring Training complex, could move up to Triple-A Rochester before he's recalled, so he can face better pitching.
"He's probably going to need some better competition, other than high A ball," Molitor said. "Once he starts playing a little bit more regularly and he's at a place where he can go out and do his job on a day-to-day basis, we'll get him up there against some better pitching at some point."
