The celebrity faces who have graced previous London Series

May 22nd, 2024

As one of the biggest sports leagues in the world, Major League Baseball is no stranger to welcoming the highest profile stars to ballparks across the U.S. That star pull transitioned across the pond to London Series in 2019 and 2023, with famous faces from the world of music, TV, cinema, sport and even royalty gracing London Stadium.

Whether in attendance as part of the pre-game entertainment to perform their chart-topping hits, or to support their favorite MLB club, check out below some of the celebrities which have been spotted at previous London Series events.

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Starting off with welcoming British Royalty to the baseball diamond, in 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joined the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees at their clubhouses in London Stadium. With the recent birth of their first child, Archie in 2019, both teams presented the new parents with team specific gifts.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined members of the Invictus Games Foundation on the field for the ceremonial first pitch.

James Anderson & Nathan Lyon

From British Royalty to some of the world’s greatest sports stars. In 2023, England’s James Anderson and Australia’s Nathan Lyon brought their Ashes cricket rivalry to the baseball diamond as they threw the ceremonial first pitch ahead of St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago Cubs game one. Anderson represented the Cubs, while Lyon stepped up for the Cardinals.

London Series 2023 took place shortly before the start of the second Test of the Ashes at Lord’s Cricket Ground, also in London.

Zak Brown, Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri

McLaren Formula 1 Team Principal Zak Brown is no stranger to baseball having grown up in San

Fernando Valley in Los Angeles and brought along McLaren’s driver line up of Britain’s own Lando Norris and Australian Oscar Piastri to the Friday Workout Day ahead of London Series 2023. All three men showed off their skills in the batting cage, before meeting Cardinals players and some lucky fans in attendance.

The team also brought along the McLaren MCL60 Formula 1 Race Car, which raced around the prestigious Silverstone racetrack two weeks after London Series at the British F1 Grand Prix.

Raheem Sterling MBE

The 2019 London Series saw England soccer Raheem Sterling MBE travel to London Stadium, although this time it wasn’t to score goals on the pitch, but to meet some of MLB’s best talents while attending Workout Day with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The Chelsea forward was seen chatting with Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia and offered up his time to pose with some lucky fans for photographs at the side of the field.

Nick Offerman

While MLB London Series often attracts local stardom to the event each year, celebrity fans of either of the baseball teams competing often make appearances too. This passion for your local team was evident in 2023 as Chicago Cubs fan, Nick Offerman, best known for TV Series, Parks and Recreation, was in attendance.

Offerman even took to the microphone to take on the coveted duty of leading the crowd through a rendition of ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ during the seventh inning stretch whilst donning a Dansby Swanson jersey.

Bill Murray

From the little screen to the big screen, the Chicago Cubs also brought with them Golden Globe award winning actor Bill Murray, star of the Ghostbusters franchise and Groundhog Day, who sang ‘Sweet Caroline’ during the 2023 MLB London Series.

When asked about the origin story of his Cubs fandom, Murray stated “I was baptised a Cubs fan, and there was a religious ceremony. I lived on the north side of Chicago, so my father was a Cubs fan. That’s how it happened, your parents raise you a certain way and a certain religion, it’s a Cubs religion.”

Rami Malek & Spike Lee

Sticking with the big screen, but now going back to 2019, the event saw James Bond villain actor, Rami Malek and Hollywood movie director, Spike Lee in the stands during game one of the London Series backing the New York Yankees.

It’s safe to presume they were both on their feet as the Yankees beat the Red Sox 17-13 in the inaugural London Series.

Craig David & Tom Walker

London Series is no stranger to attracting some of the world’s best music talent to perform pre-match. This was evident in 2019 when BRIT award winner, Tom Walker and multi-platinum R&B star, Craig David took to the stage at London Stadium to perform in front of fans across the series weekend.

With plenty of celebrities expected to be in attendance this June, London Series 2024 is shaping up to be the best series yet. Grammy award winning singer songwriter Jess Glynne is already confirmed to be performing as part of the pre-game show on the Sunday, with Welsh classical singing sensation Katherine Jenkins and American Broadway musical star Marisha Wallace set to lead the crowd through their respective national anthems.

With tickets selling fast and available from just £54, time is running out to secure your seat at the ballpark and rub shoulders with some famous faces whilst enjoying the best of baseball in London.
