Wow! Cain breaks Cardinals fans' hearts again

MILWAUKEE -- , who already has a Play of the Week honor to his name, is bidding for another after robbing another St. Louis Cardinal at the center-field wall.

On Opening Day, Cain ended a Brewers' win over the Cardinals by robbing Jose Martinez of a would-be game-tying home run. On Monday night, he leaped to take away another hit from Matt Carpenter, though whether it would have left the yard or stayed in was a matter of debate. Either way, Cain denied the Cardinals third baseman of a hit in the second inning of a 10-7 Brewers win.

Did Carpenter get enough to clear the fence had Cain not intervened?

“I don’t think so,” said Cain.

Still, it was a great play. And a critical play, considering the Cardinals had a runner aboard and were already working with a 2-0 lead. After Cain’s catch ended the half-inning, the Brewers mounted a six-run rally in the bottom of the frame, capped by the first of 's three home runs.

“Tonight’s game had so many things happen, and [the catch] was the first big momentum swing,” said Brewers manager Craig Counsell.

Once again, Yelich had the best view from right field of Cain’s defensive magic.

“I’m not shocked that he caught it,” Yelich said. “That’s what he does. There was really no doubt in my mind he was going to catch that ball when it was off the bat. He’s so good at that play and feeling around that wall. I think that kind of jump-started things for us.”
