MIAMI -- Infielder Luis Arraez won his arbitration hearing against the Marlins on Thursday, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Arraez will earn $6.1 million in 2023.

The club has not confirmed the news.

The Marlins acquired Arraez in a trade with the Twins for Pablo López and two prospects on Jan. 20. Minnesota had filed at $5 million, a number that didn't change following the deal. Arraez was in his first year of arbitration eligibility; he cannot become a free agent until after the 2025 season.

Arraez, 25, won the 2022 American League batting crown by hitting .316 with 31 doubles, one triple and eight homers in a career-high 144 games. He amassed more walks (50) than strikeouts (43).

Miami plans to play Arraez at second base, moving All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. to center field. Arraez also will serve as the backup first baseman to All-Star Garrett Cooper.

Last month the Marlins avoided arbitration with Cooper, catcher Jacob Stallings, infielder Joey Wendle, and relievers JT Chargois and Tanner Scott. They did not reach agreements with left-hander Jesús Luzardo and utility player Jon Berti.
