Garcia placed on DL with strained right wrist

June 16th, 2018

MILWAUKEE -- Phillies right-hander does not believe his strained right wrist is serious, but the team placed him on the 10-day disabled list Saturday.
He said he hopes the only thing he needs is rest.
Garcia, 31, is 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA and one save in 32 appearances. He has struck out 23 and walked six in 24 2/3 innings. Garcia had a 2.91 ERA (seven earned runs in 21 2/3 innings) through his first 26 appearances, but he has an 18.00 ERA (six earned runs in three innings) in his last six. He allowed four consecutive singles in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Rockies, which was his last appearance. He said he does not know why the wrist started to bother him, but that he first felt it a couple days ago.
"We don't have big concerns," Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said. "We even considered waiting a little while longer. But we thought we'd be conservative here because he's a big arm we're going to be depending on. The thought process was, in a few days, we'll get him throwing again. In a perfect world he comes off right when he's ready."
Garcia has had no MRI exam or cortisone injection.
The Phillies also optioned right-hander (four earned runs in eight innings) to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. They recalled right-handers (5.29 ERA in 18 appearances) and (seven earned runs in 8 2/3 innings) to take the places of Garcia and Leiter on the roster.
