Machado launches first two HRs of '18 vs. Yanks

April 6th, 2018

NEW YORK -- Orioles slugger Manny Machado reached base six times and hit his first two home runs of the season in his first two at-bats in Friday night's 7-3 win in 14 innings over the Yankees.
"Oh man, it was awesome," Machado said of being able to contribute so much in the win. "It would have [been awful] if we would have gotten the loss. I was getting mad on that one pitch when [Didi Gregorius] hit [the tying homer in the eighth]. At the end of the day, as long as we got the W, I'm fine with that. Whether I got a couple of hits, or a couple of knocks or a couple of homers, I'm just enjoying myself being out there playing the game that we love, taking it all in."
The free-agent-to-be, who answered questions about potentially wearing pinstripes prior to Thursday's series opener, sent a 1-0 sinker from in the first inning into the left-field seats to put the Orioles up one out into the game. Machado also picked up his first RBI of the season in what has been a very slow start for most of the O's lineup.
Machado's first homer traveled a projected 410 feet according to Statcast™, with an exit velocity of 110.5 mph and a 33 degree launch angle.
His next time up, in the third, he sent a 1-2 fastball into the bullpen in left-center. The ball traveled a projected 421 feet with a 107.6-mph exit velocity. It was Machado's 15th multi-homer game and his first since Sept. 5, 2017, vs. the Yankees (Sabathia and ).
