Manny Machado arguably is the biggest name on the trade market this month, and that market appears to be accelerating, according to MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal, as written in The Athletic (subscription required).
The Baltimore Orioles may look to move Machado, their star shortstop who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, sooner rather than later. Why? Because the return for three months of Machado would be more than for two months.

One club that has been linked closely to Machado is the Phillies, and it just so happens that the O's are in Philly for a two-game set Tuesday and Wednesday. That's bound to send the rumor machine into overdrive.
While MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports it's unlikely the Phillies would give up a huge haul for a rental -- even one as impactful as Machado -- it is possible the club could look to acquire a third baseman by the non-waiver Trade Deadline. Machado, of course, was one of baseball's best at the hot corner before switching to short this year.
Whether Machado would be open to returning to third base remains up in the air, as he's said he prefers sticking to his natural position of shortstop.
Besides the Phillies, these teams may be in play for Machado, per Rosenthal:
Dodgers
Having lost star shortstop Corey Seager to season-ending Tommy John surgery early on, the Dodgers have been considered a natural fit for Machado. To make it work, however, Los Angeles would need to shift Chris Taylor from short back to the outfield, where the Dodgers have plenty of depth with Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and Joc Pederson.
D-backs
Machado could bring a big bat to Arizona's lineup and shore up the shortstop spot, where Nick Ahmed is primarily a defensive-oriented player. With Arizona's competitive window possibly closing as stars A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldschmidt approach free agency, the club could jump at the chance to bring aboard Machado.
Indians
Francisco Lindor is a star in his own right, so Machado wouldn't displace him at shortstop. But third baseman Jose Ramirez has experience at second base, and he could return to the keystone spot to make room. With the Tribe's World Series drought going on 70 years, Machado would be a huge get for the American League Central leaders. 
Cubs
Machado could still be a fit for the Cubs, although incumbent shortstop Addison Russell has picked up his play of late. That doesn't necessarily mean Chicago wouldn't make a bold move -- they've traded for key pieces each of the past two seasons -- but it might lessen the front office's desire to go after Machado as a rental.
