Aug. 4: Luciano begins rehab stint
After 62 days, Marco Luciano is returning to the field. MLB's No. 8 overall prospect has been assigned to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League to begin rehabbing from a low back strain he suffered in June. Luciano -- who possesses plus power and an above-average arm at short -- was batting .288/.360/.507 with eight homers and 17 RBIs in 40 games for High-A Eugene before hitting the injured list. June 15: Luciano out with low back strain
Marco Luciano, the Giants' top prospect, was placed on the injured list with a low back strain and is rehabbing in Arizona, the club announced Wednesday. The 20-year-old shortstop will not participate in any baseball activities for at least the next two weeks. Luciano had enjoyed a hot start at High-A Eugene this year, batting .288 with an .867 OPS and eight home runs over 40 games. -- Maria Guardado

May 20: Luciano shows why he's atop prospect list
Marco Luciano hit his third homer in as many games for the High-A Emeralds.

MLB Pipeline's No. 11 overall prospect started the scoring in the sixth with a two-run blast, but it wasn't enough as Eugene fell 4-3 to Spokane on a walk-off.

Over the last three games, Luciano has nearly doubled his home run total for the season (seven). It has been a successful season for the Giants' No. 1 prospect, with his average not dropping below .295 and getting as high as .500 after the first game of the season.

May 19: Luciano homers in consecutive games
The long ball hasn't come quite as frequently in May for Marco Luciano, but that might be changing. Baseball's No. 11 overall prospect left the yard for a second straight game after going 11 contests without one. His two-run shot in the first kicked off a four-run opening frame for High-A Eugene, which edged Spokane, 6-5.

Luciano also singled and is now batting .300/.366/.530 with 11 extra-base hits, six homers and 13 RBIs in 28 games. The 20-year-old posted an .815 OPS, slugged a career-high 19 homers and plated 71 runs across two Minor League levels in 2021, his first full-season campaign.

May 19: Luciano is the Giants' top power prospect
Luciano was the top-rated middle infielder in the 2018 international crop, in large part because of his electric bat speed and power potential, which earned him a $2.6 million bonus. He matched his age with 19 homers last year between Low-A and High-A, and he's raking at a .295/.364/.505 clip with five homers in 27 High-A games this spring. Full story »
