OAKLAND -- Mariners rookie Ben Gamel added another highlight-worthy catch in the outfield in Wednesday afternoon's 6-3 win over the A's.
With no outs in the fifth, Gamel crashed into the wall in left, but he caught A's shortstop Marcus Semien's liner to take away an extra-base hit. Gamel raced 77 feet to catch Semien's 366-foot liner, according to Statcast™. 
"It hung up a little for me, so I knew I had a shot at it. I jumped and hit the wall a little bit," Gamel said. "The walls are padded, so it's a little easier on the body, but I'm just trying to make a play."
Wednesday's grab joins the long list of spectacular catches Gamel has made this year. It was not the first time he's crashed into the wall to make a catch, displaying a lack of fear that has impressed Mariners manager Scott Servais.
"That was a heck of a catch -- he took off. No worries just throwing his body out there trying to make a play," Servais said. "He went after it, kind of like he's done all year. All of our guys have, and our outfield defense has been outstanding."

Servais felt Seattle's outfield was "really solid" throughout the 6-3 road trip that's vaulted the Mariners into the second Wild Card spot in the American League as of Wednesday afternoon. If Gamel hadn't caught the ball, the A's likely would have scored two runs on Jed Lowrie's ensuing double that scored just one in the fifth.
"That's a big catch," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "There were some subtle plays that kept us down a little bit. Our bats weren't great in the middle of the game, but if one of those breaks goes one way or the other, now we're looking at a different ballgame and more pressure on the pitcher on the mound. But they didn't, so it was a great play."
