SEATTLE -- Looking to add a right-handed bat to their outfield mix, the Mariners recalled John Andreoli from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Saturday afternoon's 5-1 loss to the Rockies and southpaw Kyle Freeland.
Right-handed reliever Nick Rumbelow was optioned to Tacoma to open a spot on the 25-man roster for Andreoli, who went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts before being replaced by a pinch-hitter.
Mitch Haniger returned from a two-game absence with a bruised right knee and went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Second baseman Dee Gordon didn't start Saturday's game after twisting his hip awkwardly on a play at the plate in the seventh inning of Friday's 7-1 loss, but pinch-hit in the ninth and should be fine to play in Sunday's series finale.

"Spent a lot of time in the training room this morning," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "Kind of making the rounds with a few guys."
Although Servais said he was hoping Haniger would be able to play on Saturday, he wanted another position player on the roster because he left the ballpark on Friday unclear about Gordon's availability. 
"He had some treatment last night after the game and got kind of re-adjusted," Servais said. "His hips were out of line. He's been wearing those orthotics in his shoes, and it has affected his alignment and how he's running."
The move also takes some stress off utility man Andrew Romine, who has played five games in the outfield in addition to making an appearance at each infield position this season. He played his 13th game at second base on Saturday.
Andreoli is making his second appearance with Seattle this season. The 28-year-old made his Major League debut on May 23 at Oakland and went 1-for-3 with a walk. He also made a key sliding catch in right field in the eighth inning to help the Mariners to a 1-0 win, then was optioned back to Tacoma five days later without making another big league appearance.

With the Rainiers, he's put up a .283/.380/.420 line with 41 runs, three homers, 25 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 60 games. The former 17th-round Draft pick of the Cubs in 2011 signed with Seattle as a Minor League free agent in December, after spending the past three seasons with Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs' system.
Rumbelow pitched in six games after being recalled from Tacoma on June 14, posting a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Yankees via trade last November, but missed most of Spring Training and the first two months of the season with a nerve issue in his neck.
Zunino on the mend
Servais said he was cautiously optimistic that Mike Zunino could make a return right after the All-Star break. The Mariners' starting catcher bruised his left ankle in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Angels.
Zunino said he rolled the ankle rounding second base when going from first to third on a double. He was wearing a boot postgame on Saturday.
"I didn't know the severity at the time, but it stiffened up after the game," Zunino said. "My goal now is just to get back as soon as I can to help the team. The first two days have been pretty encouraging, so hopefully everything continues to go smooth."
